Testimonial from a volunteer

It's hard to know how or when to begin this story. More than a year ago, the idea took root and developed with exciting anticipation and a few minor apprehensions. Then, on May 19, 2025, we all embarked on this wonderful two-week project with Chiots Nordiques. There is so much to tell. A group of 15 dedicated students graduating in animal health technology, two passionate veterinary teachers (Martine Nadeau and Susie Lépine), two extraordinary senior technicians (Audrey-Anne Fontaine and Cindy David), the irreplaceable Daphnée from Chiots Nordiques, and two valuable additions: Paul Doyon, driver and handyman, and Julie-Anne Pelland, a graduating veterinarian who was an invaluable help. Additional assistance from two veterinarians (Luc Savard and Sylvie Lussier) at our last clinic was also invaluable.

So, with this cheerful group, I embarked on a road trip of over 2,500 km across Quebec and the boreal forest, passing through the north coast and the northern part of Quebec. During these two weeks, approximately 450 animals received care or surgery, including two mothers and their litters, who touched the hearts of the entire team. I could sum up the experience in one word... memorable! One of the most striking things was the kindness of the people who welcomed and helped us in the communities of Pessamit, Mistissini, Oujé-Bougoumou, and Wemotaci. This kindness and gratitude were also evident in the clients who came to the clinics with their adorable dogs and cats. The adaptability of the students and the entire team was also remarkable. I was particularly touched by the opportunity to learn a little more about the different communities.

I hope to be able to repeat the experience. 😊
