Rabies, a very real threat!

ree

For thousands of years, this deadly virus has caused the deaths of animals and humans alike. More than 59,000 deaths worldwide are attributed to this pathogen each year, 40% of which are children. This number highlights the importance of awareness, education, and above all, vaccination!

Several questions remain unanswered, and the answers are often complex. The factors to consider are not always so simple when it comes to completely eradicating this virus. However, concrete actions are being put forward by several organizations, including Chiots Nordiques, as well as local ministries and governments. The actions of each and every one of us can also make a difference! Especially in a context where the situation is changing... Arctic foxes are being seen in the south, raccoons have been dying of rabies for several months... and this is happening in Quebec!

But what can you do?

What actions can you take to break down the barriers that prevent us from combating this deadly zoonosis?

  1. Vaccinating your pet is essential! It protects them, protects you, and protects the entire population.

  1. Wild animals are still wild animals, so it is essential not to handle or touch them, whether they are alive or dead.

  1. they may look cute, it is not recommended to feed wild animals, including foxes, near your homes.

  1. It is also important to report any animals that are behaving erratically, aggressively, or lethargically.

Since 2012, Chiots Nordiques has been participating in this effort! With every field intervention, every transfer, every workshop with children. Help us do more!
